Training
Rfyc Training

Training is an integral part of what the Club offers in its aim to encourage participation in watersports.  The Club is an RYA Training Centre and, through the Club, members can undertake a range of both shore-based and practical RYA training throughout the year, from First Aid, through Dinghy Sailing to Power Boat training.  The Club owns a modern fleet of Topaz Race X and Omega dinghies which are available for practical sailing courses for both adult and junior members during the summer months.  There are also informal coaching courses conducted by members and held throughout the season for sailors to improve their skills and learn more advanced techniques.

Informal Coaching Sessions

The Club’s race programme provides all-comers with the opportunity to test their expertise against other sailors and develop their skills; and perhaps even win a trophy or two.  There is always room for inexperienced sailors to race, with the full support of a RYA qualified race management and support team, and separate novice class races are held regularly.  Anyone new to racing, or perhaps just a little “rusty” is encouraged to attend these free informal sessions for RFYC Members; subjects will include:

  • Racing rules.
  • Race course tactics
  • Start line and first beat tactics
  • Sail tuning
  • Roll tacking & gibing

Dates and times for these sessions will be published on this site (below) as they become available.

For members who wish to become involved in race management and supervision, we will also be running courses in rescue boat skills, training for race officer duties, and in race management.  Again these courses will be advertised on this site (below) as they become available.

RYA Training

RYA training courses for RFYC members and members of affiliated organisations will operate throughout the season as demand dictates.  Courses will be advertised on this site (below) as they become available, and will include:
